Ipoh-born actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh became the first Malaysian to win an Oscar at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

At the age of 61, she won a prize for her role in the blockbuster “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

She dedicated the award to her mom in Malaysia, who has shown her non-stop support since the start of her career.

Yeoh is also now the first actress who identifies as Asian to win the Best Actress Award.

Biography
Born on August 6, 1962, she’s the daughter of Janet Yeoh & Kian Teik Yeoh. Her birth name is Michelle Choo-Kheng Yeoh. She is of Hokkien descent, speaking English and Malay before Chinese.

Career
Her first camera work was a 1984 commercial with martial arts star Jackie Chan. In 1985, she began making action movies with D&B Films of Hong Kong. She was first billed as Michelle Khan, then Michelle Yeoh.

Her first film debut in the film industry are The Owl vs. Bumbo (1984) and Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars (1985). Other than Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), she is also known in Crazy Rich Asian (2018), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) and Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).
